I don't trust anyone who hasn't acknowledged their capacity for evil.
"I'm just a smol bean uwu" No sir, what you are is someone who is so habituated to thinking of yourself as innocent that you will continue to do so even when you're guilty.
To quote Chris Fleming
"You know that thing where the most toxic person you've ever met over-relates to woodland creatures on social media? I call it Vibe Dysphoria. She'll put up a picture of a mouse in a jean jacket with 'It's me.' That is not you. I don't know how you got under the impression that you are a mouse in a jean jacket. You are an eel with a gun.She posts a toad with a basket of mushrooms like 'Me doing my little things.' Oh madam, there is nothing little about your things. You gave me psychosexual issues I'll carry to my watery grave. You are not a toad in the forest...You are a cruel woman who just happens to be small."--Chris Fleming
“You shouldn’t self-ID as ADHD/autistic, you’re turning a very real mental condition into a trend” Ok then stop saying delulu. Stop speculating on which cluster C personality disorder the criminals you hear about on the news have. Stop saying “schizoposting” and “acoustic” and “is it restarted?” Stop using “psycopath” and “sociopath” as catch-all ways of calling someone a bad person. Stop saying “the intrusive thoughts won” when you bleach your hair and then turn your nose up at people who suffer from very real, very scary urges of physical/sexual violence. Stop saying “I’m so OCD” as a way of calling yourself neat. Stop treating BPD/ASPD/Bipolar as inherently abusive. Stop saying “OP I am living in your walls” without tagging for unreality. Stop diagnosing complete strangers you’ve never met on r/AITA with NPD.
You first. If you don’t want our disabilities to be treated like trends then stop belittling and minimising them. I’ll NEVER judge a person for trying find labels for their symptoms when an apathetic, racist, sexist, ableist healthcare system refuses to. But I will absolutely judge a hypocrite. Which a lot of you are
Reading a book about slavery in the middle-ages, and as the author sorts through different source materials from different eras, I am starting to understand why so many completely fantastical accounts of "faraway lands" went without as much as a shrug. The world is such a weird place that you can either refuse to believe any of it or just go "yeah that might as well happen" and carry on with your day.
There was this 10th century arab traveller who wrote into an account that the fine trade furs come from a land where the night only lasts one hour in the summer and the sun doesn't rise at all in the winter, people use dogs to travel, and where children have white hair. I don't think I'd believe something like that either if I didn't live here.
it's so fucking frustrating to be in college and know everyone uses chatgpt and to be tempted by it constantly while also knowing intellectually that it doesn't work and it's a bad idea. like, i hang out in the library a lot, and i see people using chatgpt on assignments almost every day. and i know it isn't a good way to learn, because it's not really "artificial intelligence" so much as it is an auto text generator. and it gives you wrong information or badly worded sentences all the time. but every week i stare down assignments i don't want to do and i think man. if only i could type this prompt into a text generator and have it done in 10 minutes flat. and i know it wouldn't work. it wouldn't synthesize information from the text the way professors want, it wouldn't know how to answer questions, it just spits out vaguely related words for a couple paragraphs. but knowing my classmates get their work done in 10 minutes flat with it while i fight every ounce of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in my body is infuriating.
i think one thing that's been really helpful in keeping myself from using it is thinking about Why i have to do the specific assignments i have. like what is the actual goal. like some assignments the goal isn't "share a story about parenting styles in ur personal life" so much as it is "show you understand the concept of parenting styles thru a story". or it's not "how do hormones impact teenagers' decision making abilities" it's "can you understand, reword, synthesize, and explain the information in the text and videos to explain how hormones impact teenagers' decision making abilities". and looking at it as "this assignment is asking me to read some words and then understand and explain them, which is a skill i want to have" rather than "i have to answer these stupid questions that seem really obvious because all my professors want me to die forever" has helped. especially in a world where everyone uses chatgpt i want to know how to read with my own brain
As a prof who's really interested in technology and who's degree intersected with the rise of Big Data, I can see a future where people really could use it well. Like write me a sentence about X, and then you use that as a spark to get going. But to do that, people need to be aware that asking it factual questions or to do any substantive writing is not what it is for, because it was never intended to be a research or writing bot. It is a glorified autocomplete.
I'm often tempted to ask it to do a little work for me-- summarize a bunch of things quickly so I can skim through them and find the interesting ones--but what if it's wrong? I've had students turn in papers where they invent characters in the stories we've read, full of quotations that are complete and utter bullshit. So when will it betray me? When will I be like, oh, that seems likely, and then go out into the world with a false sword of knowledge.
And worse, I know that a lot of it's 'knowledge' is biased and actively dangerous. Because it is built off the internet, it is built out of white supremacy, ableism, colonialism, and lies. It is full of misconceptions and ideas that confirm biases, *because* they are often said. Who wants to trust the word of something that is a cesspool with a few sad people in the subaltern world desperately trying to put guardrails on shit?
Are there ways to make LLMs that are A. not destroying the environment, and B. trustworthy? Maybe. You want a smaller data set where you can control the input--you want a smaller set of possible questions--maybe you just want a searchable database where you can toggle between 'suggest synonyms' and 'exact search.' I don't want my students to be afraid of technology, or even of using technology. But I want them to be aware that tools are not morally neutral. When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. When we are handed ChatGPT in a world full of misinformation and propaganda, who benefits? Who wants us to be foolish, lazy, and misinformed?
The people who want to exploit us.
Anemone song is NOT shitty, delete this 😡😡😡

It’s literally not one line repeated over and over lmao educate yourself
Oh they're fucking FINALLY having this discussion. You would not believe how I see even "nature lovers" (especially nature lovers) talk about invasive species like they're evil demons you can go ahead and burn alive. Article is more about phasing out some exceptionally cruel types of trap but maybe that'll get regular people reconsidering how they treat stuff in their own yards, too.
Because what I feel I consistently observe is that, they might not even realize it at all, but it's like people are playing "acceptable target" with invasives and letting out all their bloodlust. I am not vegan and not against killing organisms in all sorts of contexts but there's no excuse to be callous and spiteful in the process.
Definitely. I think a lot of people take the culling of invasive aninals to be less about conservation and more about finding a socially acceptable target for their sadism.
Kill if you gotta kill but there's no excuse for gleefully torturing an animal to death for some imaginary moral slight.
A python in the everglades may be invasive yes, but so is a pack of free roaming dogs. If you balk at torturing a dog to death you'd do well to remember the snake can feel pain too.
Normies talking about getting whiplash from recipe blogs. You know nothing
[ID: An AO3 author’s note reading, “Sorry for vanishing, I did a little too much research on cults an coercive control for Damian’s arc, and then realized I was raised in a cult, and THEN I ran away to a fishing town cabin on the other side of the country and had to start learning to be a person in the real world. I also forgot how to write. But I’m learning again, so I’m back now! Have some more.” The “I” in “I was raised in a cult” is emphasized by sparking emojis, and the note is ended with heart emojis. /end ID]
Aaaand THIS is one of the many reasons why it’s not only not a bad thing to portray dark subject matter, but EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to do so!! You can learn a lot when writing, and others can learn a lot when reading! This can save lives, dudes.
I am so proud of the author though. That took multiple kinds of courage at once. Good job, author.
Hi! I’m the original author from ao3!
I want to thank everyone for such hilarious and kind additions/replies/tags on this post, they’ve been so amazing to read. They’ve meant more to me than you guys know. ❤️
I also want to add some information for anyone who wants to know more about recognizing the signs that you might be in a high control group.
High control groups can be small or large, religious or not, clubs, schools, online servers, friend groups, etc.
No human is invulnerable because we all have brains and emotions that can be played like a fiddle. Knowing the red flags can help us all keep ourselves safer!
BITE model of understanding thought and behavior control
Crisis Text Line (highly recommend, especially if you’re not in a safe place to discuss things on the phone)
Please always protect yourself as best you can and never be afraid to reach out for help—even if you’re just wondering, even if you’re not sure about something.
No safe group or person will EVER be mad at you for being cautious and taking things slow, or for changing your mind at ANY point. You’re the one who gets to decide whether you join or stay with a group, no matter what they threaten or love-bomb you with.
If you’re not safe, there’s help.
If you feel trapped, there’s help.
If people are being actively hurt, good people want to listen, understand, and help.
We all deserve freedom. I’m grateful every morning I wake up that I get to live it now, even though it’s hard and I have a long way to go. Thank you for walking this journey with me, for one brief moment or for years, and helping me—and others like me—not be alone.
Take care, stay safe, and happy fanfiction reading!
Comments on erotica are so funny because a lot of the people in those sections are trying to compliment the author without directly saying "awesome job, I jacked it to this!"
I theorize the reason "bottoms" appear more prevalent than "tops" on these types of spaces is that it is simply easier to be funny about being a bottom than about being a top without sounding like a sex offender
"uuuuu 🥺 pls cock me aaaaaaaa *runs into wall like Wile E Coyote running into his own tunnel painting*" easy as shit comedy
"I want to put my DICK in someone" whoa dude calm down, take it easy

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
